TESLA
line up: Jeff Keith (vocals)
Tommy Skeoch (guitar/vocals)
Frank Hannon (guitar/keyboards/vocals)
Brian Weat (bass/vocals)
Troy Luccketta (drums)
The name 'Tesla' is from the Hungarian/Austrian/American inventor of
electricity. Never heard of him? Well, the band itself did neither, for a few
years ago, because the band was founded as 'City Kid', by Frank Hannon and
Brian Weat. After going through the clubcirquit of Sacramento, by opening for
Dokken and Y&T, they go to the island Guam and do some concerts for American
soldiers over there. During this 'holiday' most songs are written for their
debut album "Mechanical Resonance", named after one of the theory's of Nikolai
Tesla, that each object on earth has its own frequency with which (if you
expose it to this vibration) you can blow up the object. Of course the band
didn't discover this themselves. They get it from the managers Peter Mensch and
Cliff Bernstein (Metallica, Dokken, Def Leppard), who also come up with the
name Tesla. Produced by two ex-disco producers Steve Thompson and Michael
Barbiero and reinforced with ex-Eric Marin Band-drummer Troy Luccketta, Tesla
appears to be a real sensation. The band plays very exciting, rough heavy rock,
in the best tradition of Humble Pie/Aerosmith/Van Halen. With beautiful
guitar-violence, banging rhythms and rough, but very soulfull vocals of Jeff
Keith. Concerts in America and Europe gets them many fans, and looking at the
more mature and professional sounding second album "The Great Radio
Controversy" we may expect even more in the future...
